Hudswell Church Roof

2 Jan 2025

We are currently around 50% through a project at St. Michael's & All Saints Church, Hudswell, N.Yorks. The community purchased church is being converted to a walking/cycling hostel. We have been employed to re-roof the whole church using a ‘best grade’ Iberian natural Spanish slate alongside a solar-slate system. Once completed, there is little difference visually between the modern ‘solar slates’ and the traditional slate. All insulations up to modern building regulations have been employed, including a breathable, multi-foil top layer which keeps the overall roof profile low. New cast Ogee-style eave gutters and fall pipes will add to the traditional look, and alongside extensive Hot Lime mortar repairs to the stoneworks, the exposed church at the foot of the dales will be good for another 150 years.
