About Us

We are a family firm who can trace our roots back to 1864.

While Abraham Lincoln was in presidency and the American civil war was in full swing, my great-grandfather Clarence Ranson was plying his craft in the art of slating and tiling. Next in line was his son Thomas, who, during the second world-war split his time running the family business between London, Darlington and Middlesbrough, where we had our contracts and merchant supply yards. Whilst in London our firm helped re-build the capital during and after the blitz and re-roofed the section of Buckingham Palace which was hit by a bomb. We also supplied man power to help with rescuing people from the bomb-damaged buildings.

Historic Building Specialists

My father, Peter then joined the company as an apprentice at 16 years of age on a 5-year apprenticeship. He finally took over the reins in the 1970`s and has worked on many prominent historic buildings throughout the North East of England. He worked hard to forge working relationships with local clients and building contractors alike and also on National Trust and English Heritage projects. These close relationships continue to this day.

Current Day

Bringing our story up-to-date, I, Daniel joined the family business at the age of 17 and followed in my father`s footsteps on a 5-year apprenticeship under his expert tutor.

Over the last few years we have worked hard to develop and transfer our skills, excellent name and reputation into expanding our business into general building and maintenance, whilst not forgetting our roots in the dying art of traditional roofing and specialising in new roof systems and techniques to stay up-to-date in all technologies. We look to an exciting future forging new working relationships and carrying on the good work!!!
